Boston ivy is a deciduous clinging vine for sun to part sun. Clinging vines do not have to have supports, they actually attach to structures like brick or stone walls, as well as fences, via aerial roots that self attach. Boston ivy features purplish new growth that matures to green, then turns a brilliant dark red-purple in fall before leaf drop. The thick vines remain on structures over the winter, providing an interesting, architectural feature. Plant in moist, well-drained soil, water regularly, especially during dry spells.
