New Arrivals – Unique Japanese Maples and Evergreens
We are excited to share more about the truckload of Japanese maples and evergreens, including unique Japanese maple varieties, evergreen topiaries, small new-to-us plants perfect for container plantings. This shipment also included very large specimens of slow growing varieties like Lion’s Head Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum ‘Shishigashira’). Tiny plants, perfect for bonsai, were also a fun part of this shipment; these are located in our Potting Pavilion. Visit this link for Bonsai tips.
A few things to note as you look through this information; we got two plants of a lot of these. Perfect for framing an entrance or a home! Not so perfect if you look at this in a few weeks and we have already sold out! As of today, September 17th, we have an opportunity to get another shipment in but we do need to know by mid October in order for the truck to arrive by Halloween.
Some of these, we got in 6 gallon pots and 15 to 20 gallon; some of them, we only have one container/ plant size available at this moment. For specific pricing and availability, give us a call. All of these are subject to availability and we expect them to sell fast!
We posted a reel on Instagram and Facebook last week; take a look at that to see what our actual plants look like, and come by to get an even better understanding. The signage below shows mature plants; ours are not yet mature but many are sizable. Consider where you will be planting these as you shop, and take note of the mature size to insure you have enough space to accommodate your plant, when it’s full grown. Mature size is listed on the plant cards below and on plant signage in the store.
Fall is a great time to plant; roots have time to get established before it gets too cold. All plants are more susceptible to cold, heat and drought damage during the first couple of years after planting. During every season over the next few years, we suggest monitoring then adjusting watering as needed, including potentially hand watering before a very cold snap.
Very Important about Japanese Maples!
Not all of these plant cards reflect the correct sun or shade needs of these plants here in Arkansas, although they are accurate for cooler climate areas. In general, most Japanese Maples (Lion’s Head is an exception) do best with protection from afternoon sun. Pines can take full sun; some Cypress can, others cannot. Take note of where we have these around the store. The ones in full sun can take it, the ones we have in more protected areas, need some cover from afternoon sun. As always, if you have questions, connect with a Good Earth team member for more information!
