Dreaming of Spring- Tips on planning for the Spring season!
We are all dreaming of Spring; here are some tips on planning for the Spring season!
January can be a tough month for us gardeners. Dark, dreary skies against a backdrop of bare trees and brown everywhere. And while the subtle colors of winter can be appreciated, most of us long for spring. To open a fresh bag of potting soil, and to sink your hands in the coolness, and bring a handful up to breathe in the rich smell of earth is just heaven.
What are your dreams? What did you want to do last season, and didn’t get finished? Or were you overwhelmed with the millions of ideas you had?
Some of the dreams that we have heard in the last year are:
We would love to have an edible garden. Yes, awesome idea! If this is a dream of yours, start looking at where to put it. Come by the garden center and talk with us about the different varieties. Register for our Square Foot Gardening class. Before you know it, you will have the earth dug up and amended, you will be choosing plants with confidence and growing with ease!
I really want some pretty new pots by my front door this year. Excellent. Nice containers filled with gorgeous plants for the front door is not only adding curb appeal to your home; it’s also very inviting! No need to wait until Spring to get started! Simply take a picture of your front door area, and bring it in and start wandering in our pottery department. Reference the photo while shopping to consider shape, size and color. Then when Spring finally arrives, you have them ready to plant. Voila!
We need some curb appeal. Your neighbors will love you! On large projects, it will take time and decisions will have to be made in regards to DIY or hiring our Landscape Services team. If you decided to go with DIY, it will be a bit slower, but we recommend reworking one area at a time. Success builds success; once one area is complete and wonderful, you will be inspired to keep moving forward!
Feed your gardener spirit this month with thoughts of Spring by looking at pictures of beautiful gardens browsing magazines, and be sure to check out our
Pinterest boards. Try new plants. Make a stone path. Start a compost pile. Prune. Sharpen the blades on the mower. Stock up on potting soil. Find our garden gloves. Organize the potting bench.
Most of all, dare to dream.
